I recently spent some time in the historic city of Bath in the UK. The whole city is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is built from the distinctive Bath Stone which positively glows on a dark winter’s day in England.
The city is renowned for its Roman built baths, although it is believed the natural springs date back to Anglo-Saxon times. In the 17th century claims were made for the curative nature of the spring water and the city became popular in the Georgian era.
The many famous personages associated wth Bath and The Royal Crescent include Beau Nash, Sir Percy Blakeney (Baroness Orczy’s Scarlet Pimpernel), Lord Nelson, astronomer William Herschel and Jane Austen. The truly remarkable thing about Bath is that it is hardly changed since the 18th century. The best way to see it is to explore on foot to make sure you don’t miss the mews streets, stunning architecture and breaktaking views.
I stayed at the magnificent The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa where you feel like a weekend guest at a country house. It is the only Ladmark building in the world in which you can stay. Thank you to everyone there who made my experience so comfortable and enjoyable.
